The Prevent Duty

The Department for Education has published advice for schools on the 'Prevent Duty', which came into force on 1st July 2015. The Prevent duty requires a wide range of bodies, including all schools and early years and later years childcare providers, to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism in the exercise of their functions. The government issued statutory guidance on the duty in March.

Schools and childcare providers are already responsible for keeping children safe, including from the risks of extremism and radicalisation, and for promoting the welfare of children in their care. Lydiard Park Academy as part of its ongoing work meets these needs by providing a broad and balanced curriculum by promoting the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of its pupils as well as encouraging greater ties with the local community. The school has robust safeguarding procedures and works with a variety of local agencies to ensure that its pupils' safety and welfare are paramount.

There is also an explicit requirement in the Prevent Duty Guidance to promote the British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. At Lydiard Park Academy we see these values as an integral part of the Academy ethos and they are, therefore, reinforced on a daily basis.

Places for next year's trip are filling up fast but if you do want to sign up please advise us by this Friday (letter attached again for your convenience).
