Year 7 Rugby Champions of Swindon

Our year 7 boys emerged triumphant from the 2021 Swindon Schools’ rugby tournament. 8 teams entered the tournament with desires on the trophy that has spent 9 (or possible more), consecutive years in the LPA trophy cabinet. We have become the school to beat in this tournament, with our reputation now in the hands of 14 slightly cold and nervous boys. With myself and Mr B prowling the touchline, the pressure was on.

The year 7 boys stood strong throughout. To cut a long tournament story short, we only went and WON (again) . Even more impressive was that we only conceded 3 tries in the whole tournament.

Group Stage

Vs Commonweal 25-0

Vs Deanery – 30-0

Vs St Johns – 30-5

Semi Final

Vs Abbey Park – 25-0

Final

Vs Commonweal – 15-10

One nice story to come out of this was that vice-captain G. Jenks missed the Swindon cup final with a broken foot. He made his return today. In the final he scored the winning try with the last play of the game. As the final whistle blew, the boys celebrated the end of a very successful and unbeaten season. Our stats read… Played 12, won 12. Not a bad return for their first experience of school rugby. The challenge is to now try and get some of them to take it up in an outside club.

Player of the tournament was H. Priest.

Most Improved player within the tournament was M. Skeet

Players Player is still to be decided – although likely to be Gethin Jenks after the popular player showed resilience to come back from a fracture to make the telling contribution.

Congratulations to all of the boys that took part.
